It Takes A Village: The Young Mommy Life College Scholarship Program

As many of you may know, I started blogging over at The Young Mommy Life a few months ago as a monthly contributor and prior to that I'd have a few guest post here and there. That site is hands down, one of the best places on the Internet for young mothers who are still trying to get things together for a better future for their child[ren] replete with resources and inspirational post alike.

And now, adding to the awesomeness, is The 2011 YML College Scholarship! I could not be more proud to write this post because I believe wholeheartedly in the mission of YML -- to help young mothers move forward in life. Period.

As YML's Founder and Editor puts in her own words, "If we help just one young mother get through school -- just one -- we can feel that ripple effect through her kids, her extended family, and her friends."

And yes, it's really that simple.

But not so simple. Because it's quite hard to get through school as a young mother. Trust me on this.

So... what better way to help a young mother get through college than to help a young mother get through college, right?

My thoughts exactly.

YML will be hosting a fundraiser through the blog until August 11th. The goal is to raise $500 to split between two (2) young moms. Whatever the amount raised will be distributed (so if $600 is raised, $600 will be split, etc.)

Here's how you can help: HEAD OVER TO THE YOUNG MOMMY LIFE WEBSITE to chip in!

Donate $1, $5, or more to the cause. Whatever you give will make a HUGE difference. Simply click on the ChipIn widget (You need a PayPal account to use it, but it's free and 100% of the money donated WILL go to the scholarship winners. No fees!)

Let's make it happen. A better future for the mommy means a better future for the child, which means a better future for many generations to come.

(Disclaimer: I was not compensated for this post. I am, however, a part of the YML Scholarship Selection Committee.)

  2. Great cause. Most people don't really think of young mothers as mothers in need because they are young and can just go get a job, but truly, they don't yet have the skills to get a job that can pay the bills so this is truly a thoughtful endeavor. Glad you're taking part.
